ALRIGHT, I’M LISTENING.

Thriller/mystery books and I have a fraught history filled with me usually feeling a lot of disappointment. Not the case here! I really liked this book y’all and maybe I’m more of a YA mystery fan than adult thriller reader.

This was a fast paced audiobook and kept me on my toes. I honestly wasn’t sure what was going to happen and who the culprit was going to be. I didn’t totally love when the reveal happened but it was sinister and I liked the build up.

I enjoyed all of the grayness surrounding obsession and deception. It won’t be my last book by Kara Thomas.

SAVED BY THE ROMANCE.

This was a good series starter. I really enjoyed it and loved the audiobook.

I do think the world building and magic system needed some more explanation. I still feel a bit confused at how everything works and why. It kind of had a dystopian vibe? historical? fantasy? some combination of all three.

The FMC was great though. I liked her character and her perseverance to find out the clues to her mother’s disappearance. I especially loved the romance. Old friends to enemies to fake dating to wanna be lovers to enemies again?! YES PLEASE. So much tension and heat between them. I can’t wait to see where this romance goes.

Just a truly good read and an easy book for me to recommend. It had a lot of elements I continually enjoy seeing in YA books and the ending has me on pins and needles for the conclusion.

TWISTY.

I enjoyed this one a lot! I’ve been up and down with McManus books, but this was a hit. I liked the premise and was curious to watch things unfold. I really liked the two main characters and how they handled everything and worked together. There’s even a small sub-plot romance that was sweet too.

A little slow of a start to feeling very engaged with what was going to happen next. The second half was filled with some good twists and I really enjoyed how it ended too. It’s entertaining and kept my attention.

PASSIONATE.

Another beautiful and immersive culture packed read where I feel like I am taught so much and still have so much to learn.

The mystery surrounding some suspicious characters was also intriguing and had me wondering what was happening and why. Those aspects were great and intriguing. I enjoyed Perry as a main character too. She’s hardened and kind and I liked seeing her characters progression throughout the story.

What I struggled with was the overall plot. Even reading at 3x on audio I felt like things were moving slowwww. There were a lot of small scenes that didn’t feel gathered into the entire plot and I spent a bit of time just waiting for anything to happen.

That being said, still a solid read. And I look forward to Boulley’s next book.
