A GOOD ADAPTATION.

I have read and enjoyed the original trilogy, I have watched and enjoyed the movies, and now to see a graphic novel adaptation is wonderful! I really love graphic novels and I thought that overall, this held the core of the story + movie.

The art was beautiful and I LOVED the colors. I feel like the softness of the art lined up with the characters and story line. It’s easy to read and does follow the storyline well while hitting the necessary plot points. I do think some of the flow was missing though. I’d turn a page and there would be a new scene and that often felt a bit disconnected.

Still a fun read and mix to my usual hefty fantasies. I look forward to seeing book two and three in this style as well. PETER K FOREVERRRRRR.

Hello Top Ten Tuesday!

I can’t say I know any character that exactly reminds me of myself. I can think of a few who may present an aspect that would remind me of how I am.

So this list may be scatter-brained. Lets see what happens. Might be a few spins on things because I am only so clever.

And yes, I know I could do a backlist version, but I personally have made it a goal to push myself outside my comfort zone. In this way, I’m trying to do the post regardless because it causes me to think a bit more about my choices.

Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

She’s a baker, I’m a baker. Though granted she can bake cookies and THAT IS SERIOUSLY WHAT I’M WORST AT BAKING. I’m trying though.

Feyre from A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Feyre goes through some really crappy things, but I’m focusing on the fact she got away from a male who never saw her true worth and who she thought she loved. I went through the same kind of thing before I met my husband (and y’all, I’m so glad I went through that storm to get to him).

Hazel from Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Hazel reminds me of myself because she’s often been described as having a flair for the absurd, but also owning who she is. Do I dance in the middle of an aisle when my jam comes on? YES. Does my husband think I’m silly? YUP. But I never want to lose doing this simple silly things in my life.

Lira from To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

I believe I was a mermaid in another life. My obsession is strong, so Lira reminds me of all the things I love about the ocean and its mysteries.

Max from Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

I live in fantasy books and often I find myself wishing they were real. Max reminds me of myself because he’s able to dive into his imagination like I often enjoy every time I pick up a book.

Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall

This isn’t a character (it’s non-fiction), but this book reminds me of myself. I am passionate about the benefits of being a runner and this book re-kindled that for me when I read it.

Laila from The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

Laila reminded me of a “team mom” type of persona. She actively makes sure all of her family are taken care of and have what they need. I have always acted like this with my family. They come first.

Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”

Yup, that sums that up.

Rasmira from Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller

As Rasmira faces her battles in the wild, the phrase warrior of the wild is used. Like the title it reminds me of how determined she is to face the problems before her. We all have our own wild and I often find myself remembering this quote to persevere.

Love you Forever by Robert Munsch

This book reminds me of the kind of mother I hope my children remember. Because oh how I love my babe (and any future children we’re fortunate to have).

Book Tag: Do I Have That Book Challenge

I wasn’t tagged in this, but saw on Sara’s (The Bibliophagist) blog and thought it would be a lot of fun! I usually scroll through my Goodreads lists and I like this unique challenge of going through my shelves.

I have a handful, but The Madman’s Daughter, was the first one I found.

2. Do you have a book with 3+ people on the cover?

A Reaper at the Gates, love this cover change. Now if only my first two in the series matched!

3. Do you have a book based on another fictional story?

I absolutely adore this book, My Lady Jane was so cute!

4. Do you have a book with a title 10 letters long?

First one I found, Six of Crows.

5. Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter?

Obsidio!

6. Do you have a Mass Market Paperback book?

The Longest Ride, honestly the only one I own!

7. Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name?

I know she uses both Victoria Schwab and V.E. Schwab, so A Darker Shade of Magic it is.

8. Do you have a book with a character’s name in the title?

I love anything Amy Harmon writes.

9. Do you have a book with 2 maps in it?

The same map on both covers of the book, but hey, it counts!

10. Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show?

Having to use Sara’s answer because I own a handful that are now movies, but The Mortal Instruments is the only one I know that’s a TV show. Oh how I wish this was an actually good adaptation.

11. Do you have a book written by someone who is originally famous for something else? (celebrity/athlete/politician/TV personality…)

Initially got this because I love Amy Poehler, but unfortunately didn’t love it as much as I hoped.

12. Do you have a book with a clock on the cover?

I can’t find one with a clock, so another time device will have to work. Evermore has an hourglass!

13. Do you have a poetry book?

My absolute favorite poems from childhood. Reading them as an adult is even more humorous. These were a little more clever than I thought.

14. Do you have a book with an award stamp on it?

Echo.

15. Do you have a book written by an author with the same initials as you?

It doesn’t appear that I own one, so I went with my maiden initials: C.C.

16. Do you have a book of short stories?

Anything Bardugo writes ends up on my shelves and The Language of Thorns was no exception.

17. Do you have a book that is between 500-510 pages long?

A solid 502 pages.

18. Do you have a book that was turned into a movie?

This movie was so precious. A great adaptation!

19. Do you have a graphic novel?

It doesn’t look like I have any…I own a lot of children’s books so those have a lot of pictures, ha! I read with our babe a lot, but it looks like I need to look into some graphic novels!

20. Do you have a book written by 2 or more authors?

This whole series is stunning. And I can’t wait for their next duo series, Aurora Rising!

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With

Y’all, I am on the struggle bus for today’s Top Ten Tuesday!

I had a hard time deciding on anyone I’d switch places with and consulted my entire read shelf on Goodreads to help me decide.

I finally came up with a list though!! And have made it another week. Let’s go.

As usual, in no particular order:

America || The Selection Series

Someone messed up and I feel like I missed my calling as a Princess. I clearly was in the wrong place at the wrong time to ever meet a Prince (but don’t tell my husband).

Elizabeth Bennett || Pride and Prejudice

“You have bewitched me body and soul and I love, I love, I love you.” I have a lot of book boyfriends and they are definitely motivating my choices in this line-up.

Asha || The Last Namsara

I really want a pet dragon. Asha has a pet dragon. I would like to switch places with Asha.

Feyre || A Court of Mist and Fury

Another book boyfriend, my High Lord, Rhys. Yeaaaaaah. I’d switch places with Feyre easy, he’s mine.

Peter K. is a precious cinnamon roll who is too much of a sweet-heart for his own good. I also would love to spend a lot more time baking than I do. I can smell the cookies now…

Yes, I know she’s a siren but I am highly obsessed with mermaids and all things beach related. I was a mermaid in another life, I am sure of it.

I WANT THE LIBRARY. THAT IS ALL.

Also, now that I looked up more about the original story (the cover above) I am interested in reading where the phenomena came from.

Nova || Renegades

I’m not quite sure I would specifically want Nova’s never sleeping power, BUT I think it would me major fun to have some sort of super power. There’s so many to choose from in this series!

Anna || Anna and the French Kiss

I can’t be the only one who has had a fantasy about going off to a foreign country and meeting someone. And how absolutely precious is Etienne St. Clair?
