BOOK SUMMARY:

This is the riveting first-person narrative of Kvothe, a young man who grows to be one of the most notorious magicians his world has ever seen. From his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, The Name of the Wind is a novel that transports readers into the body and mind of a wizard.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH THIS BOOK.

Okay, first I’m going to start out by mentioning that I started this book on Audible. This was my mistake. I still gave it four stars (when I was truly contemplating three) because I really enjoyed The Name of the Wind much more reading it. My library happened to have a digital copy so I downloaded that because it took me almost two months to listen to it. There was something about the way it was done that never clicked. I didn’t love the voices and couldn’t appreciate the characters.

Now that I chugged along twice as fast with reading it I appreciated the story as a whole so much more.

Kvothe is an interesting child. I’m actually annoyed that he’s so good at everything, but maybe that’s the point? I did find it amusing how poor he was with women. I mean, the book ends and he’s barely 15/16. IT TOOK 600+ PAGES TO GO THROUGH THIS MUCH OF HIS LIFE? Talk about a slow burn build of a fantasy.

Everything was definitely explained well. The world-building was fantastic. I loved the differing characters and the romanticism of the story. He’s the amazing, warrior, kingkiller and everyone wants to know the tale. Since Kvothe takes his dang sweet time, nothing is left out. I haven’t read a book where I truly felt nothing was left out.

The book picked up once Kvothe made it to the University. More and more continued to happen and a lot more webs were being weaved. Kvothe is pushed by one thing, and one thing alone (spoiler if I say more!). His sheer determined mindset had me hoping he would get his answers.

The only thing I stand wondering now is, do I want to read book two?

Overall audience notes:

  • Adult epic fantasy
  • Language: A little
  • Romance: a kiss or two
  • Violence: knives, killing creatures, poison, physical, whipping

Top 10 Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday: Rainy Day Reads

Alright, after the week break we are right back at it with another Top Ten Tuesday!

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not even sure what qualifies for a rainy day read. Whenever it rains I want to read in general. Doesn’t really matter, whatever book I’m currently reading is the one I want.

So in light of that struggle, I instead have decided to twirl this as Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Want to Read Soon, If it’s Raining That Day, AWESOME (which, because of where I live it rains a few times a week).

All weather is good weather to read. My only rule is that these books have to be out already so I could theoretically pick them up immediately.

The Traitor’s Ruin (The Traitor’s Circle #1) by Erin Beaty

Y’all, I LOVED the first book. Can’t help it. So I need book two, STAT. It had some elements that I absolutely adore in YA romance/fantasy books. I have high hopes for the series.

The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews

I’ve been impatiently waiting for this book to make it to me from Australia. COME ON BOOK DEPOSITORY. YOU CAN DO THIS.

The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive #1) by Brandon Sanderson

This is going to be my next audible pick! I’m really into everything Sanderson does this year. My goal is to finish most of them by the end of 2019.

The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles #1) by Patrick Rothfuss

I’m listening to this actually as I type. Y’all, this book is taking a bit to get into, but I’ve heard such good things so I’m going to keep going. I need to catch up with my husband who’s a couple hours ahead of me.

The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker

Adventurous, wild romance in Alaska? YOU BETCHA I BOUGHT THIS. It was also on sale for 6 bucks. I can’t pass that up.

Kingdom of Exiles (The Beast Charmer #1) by Maxym M. Martineau

My next Netgalley read! I really want to read this. I might have to make it my very next read. It sounds so interesting.

More Than We Can Tell (Letters to the Lost #2) by Brigid Kemmerer

DID YOU KNOW THERE’S A SECOND BOOK? BECAUSE I DIDN’T KNOW. Now I do, now I need to remedy this situation. I absolutely loved Letters to the Lost.

Beartown (Beartown #1) by Fredrik Backman

I have only read A Man Called Ove by Backman but I have heard so many good things about this series that I really want to pick it up soon.

Age of Swords (The Legends of the First Empire #2) by Michael J. Sullivan

Mmmm. High fantasy. ALWAYS GOOD TO READ.

The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1) by S.A. Chakraborty

I had to order the UK hardcover because I couldn’t find a US one I was willing to purchase (price + out of stock + wanting hardcover = hard time). So now it’s in my possession and now I need to read this. Getting on that hype train.

Are any of these on your TBR or that you’ve already read? What do you consider a rainy day read?

Top 10 Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Spring 2019 TBR

Howdy y’all.

Really excited for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday! I’m a terrible TBR planner because I’m a mood reader. I picked books on this list that are things I feel I MUST get through at one point or another before summer.

So these are books I hope to read (whether they are out yet or not) before Summer hits!

Books Already Released:

The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co. #1) by Jonathan Stroud

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this series and am stoked to start it! I won a Book Depository giveaway that will be here in a few weeks and I chose this book. Just needs to get my hands on it.

The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1) by S.A. Chakraborty

All I want is to start this series. But I can’t find this particular hardcover anywhere (it’s sold out on Amazon currently) HELP ME!

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang

This has been sitting in my at-home TBR pile and I know I want to finally get to this!

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss

I have this on audible but am still finishing Warbreaker before I break into this one. So I know I’ll get to it in the next week or so! I’ve heard varying reviews on here. It’s making me excited to see what I think of it.

Netgalley Reads:

In the Neighborhood of True by Susan Kaplan Carlton

I’m on the blog tour for this the week it releases and so I’ve been patiently waiting to read it til it’s a bit closer to then (April 9th!). This historical fiction novel is calling my name.

Again, but Better by Christine Riccio

Actually wasn’t planning on getting this because I forgot that I had wished for it on Netgalley. Turns out, they granted my wish! So we’ll see what I think of this. I’ve heard very mixed reviews.

New Releases:

Defy Me (Shatter Me #5) by Tahereh Mafi

NO PATIENCE. I HAVE NO PATIENCE WAITING FOR THIS. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT!?

Finale (Caraval #3) by Stephanie Garber

I requested this on Netgalley (but have also pre-ordered) and I’m hoping a book god is listening because I NEED THIS BOOK.

Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle #1) by Jay Kristoff & Amy Kaufman

This cover. This duo. This book is begging me to buy it. It will win. I’m hoping for another stunner like The Illuminae Files.

Dark Shores (Dark Shores #1) by Danielle L. Jensen

#bookstagrammademedoit

I’m a sucker for books involving pirates and fantasy. This is getting hyped all over the place and now I want nothing more than to read it.

Have you read any of these? Are you excited for some of these releases? Lets talk in the comments!
