I’M STILL PROCESSING.

Bless an incredible audiobook that helped me move through this quicker because this era of life calls for audio reads and I have been waiting for this one for so long!!! And it delivered!!! DELIVERED.

I’ll start with my one small hiccup. The first 30% was rather slow with some key people being separated and on these side quests that I was waiting to wrap up and move along. But when they moved along? GOODNESS. I was glued to my headphones.

I loved the addition of more POV’s. I really liked seeing more angles of the story and thoughts from other characters. It expanded the world and politics and magic system too.

There was one character (trying to stay vague to prevent spoilers if you’re catching this review before reading the books) that I missed and wanted more of. I think that will definitely be happening in the next book but this had a middle book vibe that was hard to ignore.

STILL. Incredible writing, an amazing journey that touches on so many relevant and important topics. I love that these characters are strong AND also show weakness and growth. I am here for it all and can’t wait for book four!!

OH AND DON’T FORGET THE ROMANCE HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD. That is all.

NEEDS MORE LOVE.

I really enjoyed this book y’all and at present, I’m the only one I know who has read it. Help me change that!! I loved the audiobook narrator but I will say that there’s some flashback aspects to this and the distinguishing narration was barely visible and at times I was confused on which time period I was listening to.

For a standalone though, this packed a lot of content and wrapped up the story well. I was surprised it was a standalone and I think the length helped contain aspects of the world building and character relationships needed to shine. I enjoyed the FMC, Astrid, and the Crohn’s disease rep too.

The romance was a little bit of a miss for me (I think I needed a bit more to be convinced), but it wasn’t a big issue. It’s a bit gruesome and dark and full of good twists and steady pacing.

ABSOLUTELY CREEPY.

This is the first book in a long time that I can remember feeling genuinely creeped out by. I loved this haunted house and its many layers. The writing was incredibly atmospheric and built the scene so well I felt it. I was wrapped up in this gothic tale waiting to see what would happen next.

It’s a short book so the pacing moves quickly which keeps the entire situation from being bogged down. I would have loved just a little more build up of the characters backgrounds and relationships but that was my only minor issue.

This was lyrical and cinematic. As someone who doesn’t read a lot of the horror genre I think this is a great balance of scary with still being able to read it at night. I loved trying to solve the secrets of Brier Hall and the mysteries that it held. It’s incredibly eerie and made me crave all things autumn.

I will not stop shouting about how much love Nicki Pau Preto deserves. Her fantasy books are criminally underrated and I need y’all to READ THEM ALL.

This was an epic conclusion that brought everything I needed (though I secretly wish for more kissing but I promise it is still worth the read!!). I love this found family. It was such a great cast of characters. The multi-POV did a fantastic job of giving all the angles to the plot and I loved reading each one of them. There is not a weak link.

I love how high action Ghostsmith was. Every time I tried to take a breath, BAM. More chaos. I loved it. I loved the final battle scenes and the betrayals and watching all of the last pieces come together. The intensity of reading this had me wanting to pick up to find out what would happen next.

I adore Wren and Julian. Both amazing characters that stand so well on their own, but the sub-plot romance between them is beautiful too. I loved seeing them trust again and work together and being able to have those soft moments too.

The audiobook is WONDERFUL. Highly recommend. The narrator did an amazing job and it’s such an easy listen.

GOSH I LOVED THIS. READ IT OKAY.
