Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d Follow On Social Media

Happy Top Ten Tuesday!

This was a fun topic this week! A little hard for me to think about, but when I considered how many photos of bookish boyfriends I could see, it became a whole lot easier.

Rhys – ACOTAR Series

Ohhhh yes. Can I please get selfies of Rhys all day long? I don’t think it’s too much to ask. [Which means this one could definitely apply to Cassian and Azriel too].

Thomas Cresswell – Stalking Jack the Ripper Series

Clearly, I mostly want pictures of my bookish boyfriends. AND WHO DOESN’T LOVE THOMAS CRESSWELL?

Calla – Wild Duology

Mostly because I know she’ll post pictures of Jonah (hello hot tub photo from Wild at Heart). But also because I would love to see all of Alaska photos!

Lara Jean – To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Series

Could you imagine all of the amazing baking photos there would be?! As a fellow baker I would love this (and ya know…pictures of Peter K.).

Shallan – The Stormlight Archive Series

She’s an AMAZING artist in this series and her “artwork” is even in the books! Definitely think her artwork on social media would be top notch.

Aelin – Throne of Glass Series

I know she’d post a lot of pictures of Rowan and I AM HERE FOR IT. I think I would follow just about anyone in this world. There’s so many great options.

Olivia Langley – Faking Under the Mistletoe

Olivia is someone you want to be friends with so easily. I adored her character and personality in this book and think she would be so fun to follow on social media. She’d keep things lively!

Grant and Hamilton by Ron Chernow

Okay, but honestly. Who doesn’t think it would be so cool to follow a President on social media?! And I don’t mean those that are ultimately managed by someone else, but an honest Instagram page from a President during these time periods. I found both of these books so fascinating.

Lou – Serpent & Dove

Yes please. I want to be this chicks best friend. I think we could bond over our love a pastries.

The entire crew of Squad 312 – The Aurora Cycle Series

I JUST LOVE THEM ALL. AND WANT THEM ALL. BUT ESPECIALLY KAL.

Who would you follow on social media? Anyone from my list on yours? Lets talk in the comments!

Book Tag

Book Tag: Beauty and the Beast

Book Tag Saturday! I saw this over on Justine’s blog (Bookish Wisps) and since Beauty and the Beast is one of my top Disney movies ever, I couldn’t resist!

Rules:

  • Thank the person who tagged you.
  • Mention the creator → Kirsty @ Kirsty and the Cat Read.
  • Match a book to each of the songs/characters below.
  • Tag as many people as you like.

“Tale As Old As Time” – A popular theme, trope or setting you’ll never get bored of reading

Enemies to Lovers. I will never not love the hate and angst that turns into crazy passion between characters. I LIVE FOR IT.

Belle – A book you brought for its beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too.

I LOVE watermelons and thought this cover was gorgeous and clever. And the book itself was the same way. It’s about a young girl struggling to understand her Mom with schizophrenia. The portrayal of mental health is poignant.

Find my review here!

Beast – Book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you.

I just finished this book a few days ago and it definitely was a pleasant surprise. I was afraid it might be on the shallow side, but the darker portions really brought out the deeper meanings of the story.

Gaston – A book that everyone loves that you don’t

While this isn’t my biggest unpopular opinion, it is one that I know may seem crazy. I didn’t hate this series, but I never felt totally connected to the plot and characters. I think the slower pace kept me from falling in love with them.

Lefou – A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart

SEVRO! I love Sevro so much. He is one of my favorite sidekicks ever. I do love Darrow, don’t get me wrong, but I love everything Sevro says and does.

Mrs. Pott, Chip & Cogsworth  – A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable

I think the reason I love this book so much (and the series) is that it helps me through difficult times every time I pick it up. It’s the first book I go to in a reading slump, when I am feeling really down and a hundred other reasons. Feyre’s emotions remind me often of my own dark places and how she finds her happy ending reminds me that I have one too.

“Something There” –  A book or a series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end

I read the first book in the series and liked it, but didn’t think about looking for the second book.

Fast forward a year or two and I saw the second book at the library, thought, “why not?,” and LOVED it. Then I was able to snag book three, The Winter of the Witch, from Netgalley and fell even harder.

This is now one of my all time favorite series. If you’re looking for a fantasy book, seriously, pick these up. They won’t let you down.

“Be Our Guest” –  A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner

Rhys, The Most Handsome High Lord. This needs no explanation. I know I’m not the only one that would want this.

Not tagging anyone, but feel free to do this!

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Couples in Books

Happy Valentine’s Week!

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday is all about couples. I have so many favorites that it was hard to narrow it down! I at least kept myself to only one couple per book series since occasionally I happen to love everyone.

I could rave deeply about these couples, but here’s a highlight of my top choices:

Feyre & Rhysand (ACOTAR)

It is absolutely no surprise this is my favorite couple. My OTP.

Han & Raisa (Seven Realms)

Thinking about them gets me every time. I love how strong they are independently, and how even better they are together.

Elizabeth Bennet & Mr. Darcy

Need I say more? I am still obsessed. And still watch the movie every couple weeks (Kiera Knightly version, of course).

Vin & Elend (Mistborn Trilogy)

While I wish there was a little more couple-ness between them they still make my day. Elend always supporting Vin makes me happy. Note: I have not finished Hero of Ages yet, so NO SPOILERS PLEASE! I have faith they survive.

Cress & Thorne (The Lunar Chronicles)

This a series with multiple couples I adore, but Cress & Thorne are my top favs. I love how protectively sweet he is to her.

Aelin & Rowan (Throne of Glass)

Some people may have mixed feelings towards them, I am not one of those. I absolutely adore these two and their unyielding faith in one another. This is another series where I have multiple favs (Elide & Lorcan) being in that mix.

Kestral & Arin (Winner’s Trilogy)

I have been dying to do a re-read of these books. I don’t remember them well enough anymore. Other than the fact that I LOVED the way Kestral & Arin’s story played out. It made me so angry at times, and then so utterly happy in the end.

Vasya & Morozko (Winternight Trilogy)

Y’all, they care about each other so much but both are so used to not dealing with their feelings they can’t cope. AND IT IS SO CUTE. This was one of my favorite pairings to watch grow over the series. It was completely amazing.

Tess & Will/Jem (The Infernal Devices)

AH. These guys are so great. And the way the love spans decades and time because they all love each other so much they gave each pair an opportunity to be together. I can’t, I just can’t.

Lark & Tiras (The Bird and the Sword Chronicles)

This is such a sweet, slow-burn love. Their relationship evolved over helping each other through personal struggles. And together became a King & Queen worthy of their kingdom.

Lots more love on my shelves, because I love love.

Have you read any of these? Are some of these couples your favorite too? Or do you actually hate them? Let’s talk in the comments!

IS IT REALLY OVER?

I am SJM trash y’all. I can’t even. Ah, I love her writing. I love this world. I love it all.

Getting to be with these characters all over again, and after the war, tore my heart to pieces. Everyone struggling with their own PTSD was high-lighted poignantly and beautifully by the multiple POVs. I loved getting to read from just about every member of The Court of Dreams. Knowing their struggles and triumphs made even the highest Fae, human.

Emotions ran raw, and had me feeling so much. Feyre showed the power of creativity and allowing ourselves to create in whatever form to help cope with loss and tragedy.

I am consistently in awe at the end of her books at the way the stories wash over my soul. I will probably re-read this before I can even pick up another book because I am always in a book slump after reading one of these.

Also, pumped for the next books coming in this series. I really enjoyed the bonus sneak peak. While some of my previous assumptions were right, I definitely don’t know quite where this next story will lead. They’re are some good cornerstones that will supply another endless love for these new POVs.

Language (including f-words), and some good ol’ love between Rhys & Feyre (because, of course, so this shouldn’t be a spoiler). Remembrance of the violence that had taken place in previous books.
