GREAT SEQUEL.

We all know that second book can be hit or miss and I found this one to be a hit! I enjoyed reading this via audiobook again and love love love that it’s dual POV.

I think this journey continued well and I loved being back on the open seas with this crew. There’s a lot of good action and drama and one of those very slow burn romances that has you begging them to get together ASAP. I thought the tangent aspects of the plot fit back into the larger arc and it has me excited to pick up book three!

I can’t directly pinpoint what was missing, but it just wasn’t a full five star for me. Definitely a good read, one I’d recommend and filled with awesome characters and magic too.

SO MANY THOUGHTS.

I’m kind of bouncing all over about this one so this review might read a little more chaotically than usual.

The first half of this book I enjoyed. I felt pretty engaged with what was happening. I liked the trajectory and the main character + side characters. All good things.

And then, something felt off about the second half and I don’t know how to describe it. I wasn’t in love with everything happening and the romance had a forced spice aspect that didn’t click with me either. They were kind of a second chance moment? But with no great background on that first chance they were feeling a lot more chemistry than I ever was.

The ending did have a few interesting aspects that almost have me wondering if I should try the second book. I might wait for reviews though before I try it out.

AHHHHHH.

No seriously, I almost gave this ONE STAR. And as you can see, THIS GOT FIVE STARS. That’s how much emotional turmoil I was in and I was ready to throw my headphones across the room. Which while that may all seem chaotic truly just shows how good of writing and story telling was present that kept me in such a chokehold waiting to see where everything would land.

I love these characters. It’s definitely a fantasy PLUS romance. And all of the fantasy elements are amazing. The politicking and betrayals and twists and turns and everything in between. I loved the world building and magic systems. THEN you add in this wonderful star crossed, actual enemies to lovers romance? STOP IT NOW. The banter and heat is incredible. If you’re someone who doesn’t like spice forward stories (hi, it’s me) this is the one you should pick up!!
