Book Tag Saturday: Night and Day Tag

I wasn’t formally tagged in this, but I found it on Kristin’s Site (Kristin Kraves Books) and thought it would be fun to do for this week! I love her page, definitely make sure you’re following her!

Hope you enjoy the answers. Have a great weekend!

Do you read more in the morning or at night?

Lately it’s been at night. After the babe (+my husband) have gone to bed I snuggle in for a few hours and read whatever book I’m currently reading.

Are there any books that changed the way you thought about things?

Oh, I feel like every other book I read does that to me. For instance, I finished The Simple Wild last night (or a few nights ago at the posting of this tag) and it made me consider a lot about my relationships with my loved ones. It doesn’t have to be non-fiction to cause a change in thought. But I’ve ready plenty of non-fiction (i.e. When Breath Becomes Air) that also has changed my thoughts about life.

YA or not?

ALL DAY. That’s what I mostly read. I don’t think anyone is too old to enjoy a good story, regardless of it’s “target audience.” I love reading YA and I will do so for the foreseeable future.

Are there characters that you honestly believe are real?

Not really. Are there characters I wish that were real? DEFINITELY. Especially in fantasy. But I’m also very aware that we don’t have *that* kind of magic happening in the real world.

In contemporaries and such, I don’t necessarily believe the characters are real. Though, since it is real life I can better believe that something like that could happen.

Nobody touches my books or I don’t mind loaning my books out?

Loan them to everyone (mostly). I actually have a few right now that are out with friends. it makes my heart unbelievably happy when a friend asks if they can borrow a book. OF COURSE YOU CAN. It’s like letting them take a tiny piece of my bookish soul.

Do you ever smell your books?

Eh, no. If I open a box and the scent wafts out, sure. But I don’t go up to my books and sniff them.

Not everyone loves books…is this a positive or negative?

Positive! I do secretly believe that there is a book for everyone, buuuut I know not everyone likes reading. AND THAT’S OKAY. Different interests and passions are what keeps ideas flowing in the universe.

Gosh, I have too many books! True or False?

False. I know I have around 300 books, but honestly it hasn’t grown much since 2016. I really dialed back how much I buy and y’all. Have you seen bookstgram? Some of those shelves have close to 1,000 books and I’m sitting here stunned by that fact. I think I would be overwhelmed if I had *that many*.

Have you ever spilled or stained books before with something, if so how?

With water, usually a few drops. I can’t remember the last time I full-on damaged a book though. *crosses fingers* I SHOULDN’T HAVE SAID THAT.

Toned or untoned? In other words, do you read and workout at the same time?

I do! If I’m on a cardio machine I will bring my book (in whatever format) and read while I’m running, biking, etc. I love how quickly it passes the time. I’ll listen to an audiobook occasionally as well, but when I lift I usually need a song to power through.

Since I wasn’t formally tagged, I’m not tagging anyone. So feel free to do this (and tag me in your answers if you’d like too!). What are some of your answers to these questions? Lets talk in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday: Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday.

On the docket for the day is Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books. I feel like I don’t have any crazy things for books, but I’ve done a few ridiculous (totally warranted if you ask me) things because I love all the books.

Check out my list below!

Stayed up all night.

One of the most obvious (I think about every one of us has done this!) is the fact I have pulled many all-nighters because there was no way I was putting the book down. My wake-up now depends on a toddler so things can get dicey with risking any late night binge reads.

Skip school.

You heard it hear first, I have missed school to read. Was it for a class that I could skip that day? Yes. I have too much anxiety to miss a class that had anything important on the radar.

Took a day off of work.

I may or may not have asked for a day off when a book I HAD TO GET that day (i.e. ACOWAR was the last book I did this for haha). Don’t worry, it was way in advance and I truly didn’t take days off.

Hidden from family.

When a book has consumed my time I have been known to disappear. This may be to my closet, or locked in a bathroom. My husband has found me in an odd spot a time or too.

Called in a faraway favor.

My most recent outrageous thing was calling in a favor. My brother in law lives lives literally 2,000 miles away. I saw that Cinda Williams Chima was going to be at a B&N next door. So what did I do? Asked if he would go for me. And what did he do? Y’ALL HE WENT. I NOW HAVE A SIGNED BOOK BY HER (Flamecaster if you’re curious). I’m forever grateful.

Purposely found a reason to keep driving.

I don’t have much of an opportunity to listen to audiobooks when I have my toddler talking to me all day (not complaining, just a fact haha). So when we’re in the car running errands, that’s when I listen. I often will take a slightly longer way home to finish a chapter or listen a little bit longer.

Paid insane shipping to get a bookcase.

I don’t have an IKEA close enough to me to pick up furniture. I am in love with their Billy Bookcases and once I got one, had to have more. Guys, there shipping is CRAZY. I mean, I get it, it’s a large item, but still, holy cow. The shipping is as much as the bookcase. I still paid for it though, because I wanted matching bookcases that badly. WHOOPS.

Prolonged a run.

When I’m hoping to have an easy, simple run, I’ll listen to an audiobook to keep my pace in check (music gets me way too hyped). Like with driving, if I need a little more time, my run can stretch out longer than I originally planned. More endorphins, right?

Planned my day around getting event tickets.

Granted, I’ve only been to one event at this time in my life, BUT STILL, it was chaos getting tickets. I was trying to get SJM Kingdom of Ash Tour tickets. I commandeered my sister (in another state) to get on at the same time to try to get VIP tickets. While that didn’t happen I did get regular tickets!! (Note: this event sold out in 20 minutes, for real).

Make rules for my personal library.

I’m willing to share all of my books, but heaven help me, I have rules before you’re allowed to borrow. I want my books to come back in one piece you know?! I don’t think it’s too much to ask.

Have you done any of these things? What’s the most outrageous things you’ve done for a book? Let’s talk in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday: Things to Do While Listening to An Audiobook

For Top Ten Tuesday this week it’s an Audiobook freebie! I’ve thought all week about what I wanted to do and finally this idea popped into my head.

Some people are wary of audiobooks (I totally was too), but now I see how much other stuff I can do while listening to one! It’s multi-tasking at its finest. Put an audiobook on and get down to whatever business you need to.

So here’s a list of 10 things that you can do while listening to an audiobook!

Laundry

I’m one of those weird people who enjoys laundry. I love an empty basket and all the clothes put away (even if it only lasts a few hours, okay who am I kidding, 5 minutes). My favorite thing to do is play an audiobook while folding clothes! Makes everything go by much faster.

Shower

May be crazy sounding, but I figured out if I put my phone in a certain spot I can hear it well AND shower! Taking me time to a whole new level. Or better yet if you have a waterproof speaker you can easily listen that way.

Insomnia (Or whatever is keeping you up late)

Maybe it’s been a long day, but your mind won’t rest. Maybe you’re a parent who needs to rock a child back to sleep. This is a great chance to pop in some headphones and listen softly to a favorite audiobook. I used to do this when I was nursing our little one and loved it!

Exercise

This was one of the first ways I utilized audiobooks. I run a lot (or did – as I’m still in a boot *sigh*). I digress, this was a great way to spend the time! If I’m feeling it, I’ll listen while I lift weights or do some yoga.

Driving

Road trippers unite! My husband travels a lot for work and I convinced him to try out audiobooks and he really enjoyed it. I do as well, especially because it means no commercials. Get in the car, put on a book, an be on your way.

Instagram/Blogging

A new way I’ve been adding listening to my day is to do so while I’m taking Instagram photos (or scrolling forever). I’ve also added in listening while I’m blogging. Since I don’t have to be super focused on these tasks I can easily take in both!

Relax

I don’t know if you’ve experienced this, but occasionally my eyes/head will hurt from all the reading I’ve done (especially if I have read a lot in one day). What’s great about audiobooks is that you can close your eyes, let your head relax and still get reading done!

Cooking

Sometimes I listen to music while making dinner, but if not, I’ll put a book on! It’s a great way to spend the time and make cooking not seem like a chore (for me it can be some days).

Hobby/Craft

If you’re into jigsaw puzzles as much as I am, this is a great opportunity! Or coloring in a book, sewing, stitching, whatever you’re good at doing! Even better, learn a new craft while you’re listening!

Work

Since I’m a stay-at-home Mom right now, my job consists of keeping a tiny human alive. I try to keep the TV off for most of the day, so I’ll play a book we can listen to while playing! At your office (or other environment) you could listen while on break, or lunch, or even while working!
