What ensues is a series of tests and games with Josh one step ahead of her the whole time, until Cat realizes the friendly wager has her betting against the one man who may be able to revive her faith in love. Worse yet, it turns out Josh might not be the gambling type.

HARD PASS.

Oooooh this was not for me. And now I don’t even want to try any of the other books in this series.

We got off on the wrong foot by throwing in some one night stand vibes (almost went through with it). I have never loved that trope and this is what I get for not reading the synopsis.

I also hated the FMC. I thought she was manipulative and rude. Why would you bait your boyfriend into potentially flirting with someone else just so you can prove he’s not actually a nice guy so you can break up with him? THAT IS NOT OKAY. That scene and others enraged me to no end.

The drama with the third act was, you guessed it, as awful as the rest of this book. Over the top and since I was done with the book at this point I just wanted it to be over. There relationship got fully started before the halfway point and it never recovered. I wasted my time on this one.

MAYBE FOR YOU?

I know I gave this a low rating, but I’m also able to see that maybe it’ll work for someone else this holiday season.

What I struggled with most was the mental health representation and how it was handled. It just didn’t sit well with me and I wish a little more exploration would have been written in. I felt like this plot line wasn’t truly finished.

The romance was lackluster. It was trying hard to be sweet and cute, but many of the moments felt forced.

There’s definitely plenty to fulfill anyone looking for a read with holiday spirit. Lots of Christmastime activities and traditions to go around. While I didn’t click with the writing style if you enjoy:

  • Sweet romance
  • Heavy faith themes
  • Workplace romance
  • Kind friendships

…then maybe it’ll work for you!

I was seeking a quick contemporary in the midst of reading a big fantasy and stumbled upon this! I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading Laura Langa’s next book.

This concept was kind of quirky, but it worked. The fact that the Yeti was called Yeti for most of this book made me chuckle. And I think it played well into his back story and the things he was working to over come. This had an insta connection vibe that I actually really liked and I could feel the growing chemistry between Haley and the Yeti.

I was a little confused by one the plot aspects with the famous guy? It seemed kind of random and I don’t know that it helped any of the story that much. I did appreciate that when a silly third act break-up could have happened that it was worked out in a much more natural manner.

It was a good read and I liked the audiobook a lot. Look forward to the next!

BETTER THAN I THOUGHT.

I picked this up on a whim from a friends recommendation. It was even better than I could have hoped! And a lot deeper too.

The deeper angle was actually a really nice touch. I liked the exploration behind the darker side of Hollywood and the way grief can keep its claws in us. I’m very grateful that Ethan got the help he needed in the end and I liked a lot of the conversations with characters and development he had.

Fake dating is totally my jam. And while I do think this got off to a quicker start than expected I did like the relationship. They were real sweet on one another. While I’m usually not a Hollywood actor set-up fan, this landed in the exception column and I’m so glad it did.

I loved the audiobook and definitely recommend that avenue. A solid read that I’m happy I picked up!
