AWKWARDLY LUSTY.

Hm. Well, I wanted to enjoy this but someone needs to make sure I stop reading books by this author because they just aren’t for me (which is okay, I’ve tried). The ideas and the bones of the book are all here. It’s an interesting concept and difference scenes and concepts were good. The writing in general was fine, but some romance choices were odd.

The main couple kisses within the first few chapters in this weird lusty moment that felt out of pocket. And then throughout the whole book were these odd innuendo comments and discussions. Then every time the main couple was together, the same thing. Overly lusty dynamic without any true relationship progression. I was taken out of the story every single time.

While the plot has an obvious twist, I didn’t mind it because it worked for the story. But was it enough for me to read book two? I don’t think so.

I WANT BOOK TWO.

I was kind of up and down with how this book went. The world building was a bit confusing and I’m still not sure how the gods vs. the setting vs. the gifts vs. everything else truly work. The romantic connection between Damien and Wren grew on me. I liked seeing them come from different sides of the track and start to work together to unravel the mysteries before them. The regency vibes were really good too though.

It lost me for a bit in the middle. Things kind of dragged out and I was losing steam. That last quarter though was really good. And on top of that cliffhanger ending I decided I have to pick up book two to see where it goes next. This was my first book by Katherine Quinn and I had an enjoyable time.

NEW FAN.

I will officially be reading Ellie Palmer’s next book because this hit all the right notes for me. It was a well balanced romance and I loved the themes and story too.

It’s just a romantic read. I loved listening to the audio and was heavily invested in Alison and Adam’s story. The slow burn was incredible and I loved seeing these quiet moments they got together and the joy they found in each other’s company.

There’s good character growth in Alison’s story too. Her story line packed an emotional punch that had me teary eyed at the grocery store. The journey was beautiful and swoony and impactful on many levels.

GOOD HISTORICAL.

I am trying to clear out my audible line up so it doesn’t make me anxious with how many books I want to get through and a libby lull allowed me to get some good back list books! I enjoyed this historical a lot. I loved the unique time period setting and the intensity of emotions between characters.

It’s a great audiobook and I loved the narrator. I love when historical feel well researched and I always walk away feeling like I learned more about the setting (even when the characters are fictional). The romance is sweet and passionate too. The draw between Rhys and Catrin can be felt through the pages. Filled with action and betrayals this was a fantastic listen.
