Top Ten Tuesday: Character Traits I Love

Happy Top Ten Tuesday!

This was kind of a hard topic for me this week. I know when I love or hate a character, but truthfully, I don’t think a lot into specific traits I appreciate about them. I started thinking about some of my favs and tried to break down why I really love them. It led me to a couple of key characteristics that make a great character.

Hope y’all are having a great October so far!

As usual, these are in no particular order.

Decisive

Goodness gracious. What makes me annoyed more than anything is watching a character run around in inner monologue circles of trying to figure out what to do next. MAKE A CHOICE ALREADY PLEASE.

Wit/Sass/Snark

Any of the above in any amount. I like a character that I find so snarky that I laugh at their conversations (in a good way). They make me smile and it seriously ups the banter game on all accounts.

Brave

I love a character acknowledging that yes, they may be frightened, but that also, they do the dang thing.

Able to communicate

Ugh. Don’t even get me started when it is GLARINGLY obvious that a character could have had one tiny conversation with another and it would have solved EVERYONE’S problems. Talk to each other y’all. It doesn’t add intrigue by hiding secret after secret.

Lover

If you’ve been on my page before, it might be a bit obvious that I love love. Add a bit of romance to any story and I’m practically sold. I love when a character loves another. Whether that’s a friendship or relationship. I love the passion they exhibit.

Open to change

It’s cool if you’re a bit stubborn, but resisting every tiny thing will immediately turn me off. I love seeing someone who may stumble a bit, but realizes the necessity of change. Whether it’s to a plan, goal, or something in between. Change is our only constant.

A good friend

Don’t be that guy. LOVE YOUR FRIENDS. They are supporting you and a character should do the same in return. Mistakes may be made yes, but I love when they understand and change the error of their ways to really become someone that can lift others up too.

Reliable

If a character tells someone they’re going to do something, please do it. That’s all I’m asking.

Emotional

And I don’t mean that ridiculous drama filled emotional kind (though that does have its place and can work well too!), but more the fact that I LOVE when a character has emotions. Especially those tough book boyfriend types. Shed a few tears, actually care about a situation/someone? YES ALL DAY.

Confident/Bold

I know this may take a bit while reading for a character to hit this spot. And that’s okay! I love a great character arc. When by the end, they are who they are and own it. YES. When they can be confident in themselves and their situation? YES.

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Titles With Numbers in Them

Y’all this is a hard topic! But hey, HAPPY TOP TEN TUESDAY.

These definitely aren’t all books I’ve read. I put in bold at the beginning of each blurb about the book about how I feel towards it. Whether it’s a book I’ve read, or on my TBR, or I might never pick up but hey, it has a number in it. It is what it is!

And I also am going in sequential order of numbers 1-10. Because I was looking for extra difficulty in my life haha.

The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass

READ: This was such a cute series! BUT ONLY THE FIRST THREE BOOKS. Don’t even get me started on the rampage of books four and five.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss

CHILDHOOD FAVORITE: Who hasn’t read a Dr. Seuss book at least once in your life?! Always a great classic.

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns #1) by Kendare Blake

TO BE READ: This is on a tentative TBR of mine. I own the last book, so it’s making me consider picking this up…should I?

The First Four Years (Little House #9) by Laura Ingalls Wilder

CHILDHOOD FAVORITE: Ohhh this series! One of my favorite childhood reads! Love them forever.

The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave #1) by Rick Yancey

MAYBE EVENTUALLY: This book BLEW UP when it became a movie and I have neither read or seen either version. Probably should remedy that, I’ve heard good things! At least about the first book.

Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo

READ: LOVE THIS DUOLOGY. Read it. That is all.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Tayllr Jenkins Reid

MAYBE ON MY TBR: I have seen people LOVING this, my mood hasn’t hit me yet to pick it up though. Eventually…maybe…

1984 by George Orwell

READ: A classic I’ve read…and not loved. This book really creeped me out, especially reading in high school. We basically live in a version of this now. Also, I’m counting this because there is an EIGHT in the title.

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

READ: Oh, what CoHo book DIDN’T I love? The answer: NONE. Still one of my favorites of hers!!

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

READ: A whimsical read that was occasionally slow. Enjoyed it overall though!

I did it! Took me way longer than I am willing to admit. What about you? Do you have a favorite book with a number in the title? Lets talk in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite Things to Eat/Drink While Reading!

I’m not sure I even have ten favorites for today’s Top Ten Tuesday. We’ll see what happens as I think about what to post here.

LET’S FIND OUT.

Popcorn

Oh, how I loooooooooove popcorn. Forever, and ever AMEN.

Water

I finally gave up drinking sodas regularly (it’s a special occasion drink only now) so I usually have a large water sitting next to me. Stay hydrated!

Kind brand breakfast bars

I wake up every morning and find a breakfast bar my husband leaves for me (he leaves at 5 AM). I eat while I read before the day gets started!

Chips

I keep a bag of chips as my “treat” when I’m craving something salty late at night. My current fav? Lays Natural Ruffles, so good, and much better than other options!

Granola

I have this favorite granola: Love Crunch Organic Chocolate Coconut Macaroon. PERFECT dose of chocolate without feeling like I am eating something horrible for me. Win-win in my book.

Lemonade

Y’all, lemonade-holic over here. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I make a great lavender lemonade that is to die for too. I am now craving it. Will probably have to make ASAP.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

My one truly not so great for me item. But sometimes, YOU NEED TO EAT THE CHOCOLATE. And this is what I’m always craving while reading.

Chick-fil-a

I don’t eat too much fast food. I’m also 90% vegetarian (I eat fish sometimes), but you know what I won’t give up? CHICK-FIL-A NUGGETS. Never.

Muffins

I love baking. I love baking muffins. I probably make them once a week. You can usually bet I’m eating one while reading at that point.

French fries

You know at the beginning of this when I said how much I love popcorn? My other life weakness: FRENCH FRIES. I will eat potatoes in any form (besides potato salad because: ew) and for every meal. Having a bad day? French fries will cure that.

I did it! Thanks to my hubs, we came up with ten things I can be found eating or drinking while reading.

What about you? What’s your favorite thing to eat or drink while reading? Lets talk in the comments!
