THE SWOOOOOOON.

This felt very Pride and Prejudice coded to me. In allllll the best ways. Add in some suspense and I became a goner. I could not get enough of each and every page. I LOVE both of these characters and the banter will have you giggling and kicking your feet like none other.

I’m a sucker for forced proximity that doesn’t feel forced and the natural way of the romance was amazing. Stuck in a home together? FOR PROTECTION? Say less. I loved the impeccable slow burn and the intensity of feelings you could feel coming off in waves from Beatrice and Alexander. I also forgot how much I love in historicals when they use their first name??? Good heavens.

I loved the setting, I loved the mystery of the suspense and how the added elements only increased my enjoyment. Everything is balanced beautifully and I know you’ll have a hard time putting this one down. READ IT OKAY.

LIGHT AND SWEET.

Oh I needed a book like this. Something quick, on the lighter side and filled with sweetness. I love the sibling relationship between Aurora and her sisters. I long for those kind of bonds and the way they take care of each other is just my favorite. This also included Roman and Denice’s relationship too!! Give me all the good family vibes pleeeease.

And I LOVED that she was older than Roman??? The dynamic between them was perfect. I loved how Roman played with Aurora and the slow but sure way he showed Aurora how to let her walls down a bit. The slow burn was just right and I couldn’t get enough of them in each other’s orbit. Both characters with flaws they were working through showed wonderful growth and willingness (even if stubborn willingness) to change and adapt for the better.

GREAT CONCLUSION.

My Catherine Cowles back list quest continues and I loved this ending. Nobody told me this was marriage of convenience and y’all know how much I love that trope!!! I loved Anna and Mason together. Just another protective, sunshine hero who had me in a chokehold.

I do think this book was trying to do a few too many things. There were a LOT of plot points and if it had been dialed back, more moments would have stood out better.

But, I love this found family and small town. I loved all of the suspense and romance. It’s such a great series and I loved getting the epilogue of seeing everyone!!

DISENGAGED.

That’s the best way to describe this book. I genuinely enjoyed book one and think if that had been extended in just a few ways this would have been a great standalone. This second installment (it’s a duology) chose a plot angle that kind of took away from the romance and original larger story that I started losing focus even though it’s a short book.

I liked the dynamic between Mance and Silver a lot. It’s black cat x golden retriever that plays well off of each other. The audiobook narrators did a good job bringing them to life. Aaaand I think that’s it. This one just doesn’t stick well.

I’d be curious to see what this author writes next!
