WELL I’LL CONTINUE.

I fully accept the peer pressure on reading this one because it was an absolute step up from book one (for me) and now I must have book three!!

I loved the continuation of this book. I thought the plot was expanded greatly and the world building and magic system started to click even more. I liked the dark politics and subtle twists and turns that led to awesome reveals. A few things went the way I was hoping on multiple fronts (staying vague because going into this not knowing is the best!!) that really sold this story.

I love love love that it’s duet narration. It is my favorite audiobook narration style and it makes the characters shine.

I do wish that the FMC, Aurora, would do a bit more. She keeps being called a damsel and distress, and you know what?? SHE IS. I’ll give in that the end of this book made that look like it’ll be changing soon so I’m hopeful.

GOT ME GOOD.

Oh it’s a thick book y’all. But a thick book that delivers. There’s something about those last 200 pages that always gets me going in this series. The increase in action and intensity and love and betrayals, this was headed right where I was hoping and gave me what I was after tenfold!!

I love Finn. While I missed the characters from book four, I love Finn enough that honestly, I hardly noticed. His story involved some deeply flawed characters and I loved the journey and arc they went on together. Who knew I would be so into this romance?? I love that each romantic line in this series has a different feel and edge to it. They are not cookie cutters and will leave you feeling all the things.

I can’t believe this series is almost over. I am highly looking forward to the sequel and seeing how these meddling gods are taken down one last time. I love the way these characters have bonded together, I love the action and tender flow of the story and all the things in between!

HOLY WATTPAD.

Yeah, this book had big wattpad vibes, and I gotta say, the movie was better.

I think I would have been close to hating this had I not already watched the movie so I knew what I was getting into. Because WOW, the whole thing feels over the top, there’s not a lot of development of anyone or anything, and you are dragged along this rollercoaster. It truly did follow the movie almost to a T so leaning into that made it more appealing.

I’m not sure what else to say about this one. It was like, I didn’t mind listening to it, but also, get this away from me now? BUT I AM WHO I AM and I am going to try book two (though the reviews from friends have taken away my optimism). Stay tuned.

I LIKED IT WELL ENOUGH.

I expected to have some mixed thoughts on this one and I do but y’all know I appreciated a third act handled well (or that reasonably makes sense to the situation at hand) and I felt like this book did that. There were some genuinely big hurdles to think about and decide upon and the time and discussions actually moved the relationship forward.

What bugged me though is that this had a let’s just sleep together vibe. And I do not like those vibes. Especially since this was closed door I just don’t think it matched the energy of the story. It wasn’t necessary and the relationship could have been further without that point.

I did enjoy that it was dual POV and that both Breck and Rory stood up to those in their lives that they needed to. I love seeing relationships mended when it works best AND when relationships are severed when it’s best. This is a great winter book with all of the snow content (which cracks me up that I read it sitting at a pool).

I’ll definitely continue to read J.A. Forde’s books.
